[Starling] Why are my payments rejected immediately after authorisation?

Starling has enforced an 18-character limit on the beneficiary_name,beneficiary_reference and remitter_reference fields. If either of those fields exceeds that limit, then the payment will return status:Rejected right after authorising the payment.
