Short answer
No. TrueLayer's production (live) environment is only available to registered businesses and commercial entities that meet our onboarding and compliance requirements, including a minimum level of commercial scale. It is not available for personal, hobbyist, or non-commercial projects, regardless of how complete or well-built the integration is, and simply forming a company does not automatically qualify a project for production access either.
This applies even if:
- You are only connecting your own bank accounts.
- The app has a single user (you).
- You have no intention of charging anyone or launching publicly.
- You already have a fully working integration tested in Sandbox.
- You are willing to register a business for the sole purpose of getting access.
Why isn't this allowed?
TrueLayer operates a B2B model: our customers are registered businesses, not individuals. Production access is provisioned against a signed commercial agreement and is priced based on volume and use case. There is no self-serve or free production tier, because every live client relationship requires a dedicated setup.
What Sandbox is (and isn't) for
Our Sandbox environment is free and is available for testing with mock data. It exists specifically so that signed clients can fully build and test their integration. Hobbyists and personal-project developers are not the intended use-case for this product, and any personal project will not receive any support from the TrueLayer support team, along with no access to the production environment prior to any commercial agreement.
Sandbox data is entirely separate from production: building and testing your app in Sandbox does not create any entitlement to production access, and there is no "upgrade path" from a personal Sandbox project directly into production.
What if I do plan to operate as a business?
Production access is reserved for businesses that meet TrueLayer's minimum commercial requirements. We assess this case by case, and it isn't something we can confirm during a chat or support ticket. If your project is (or will become) a registered business, the way to find out if it fits is to:
- Contact our Sales team using a business email address, with details of your use case and expected volumes.
- Sales will let you know whether your business meets our current onboarding criteria, and if so, will guide you through pricing, the commercial agreement, and the compliance (KYB/KYC) steps required to enable production access.
Please note that not every business is a fit: TrueLayer reserves the right to grant production access to companies that meet its own internal requirements.
